Getting Kind of Grunge

It's been over a week since I have posted and I have to say, I missed it. It was a tough week! After taking a long weekend Upstate I mistakenly got behind on work and that included the blog. Getting behind for the first time in forever taught me one thing, NEVER DO IT. There will be stress, frustration, tears (it was bad), etc. I had probably four major projects due this week and I was no prepared for the overload. It led me to feel like getting a little grunge!

Let's be real, 90's grunge was an amazing time for fashion and a huge inspiration for me. While I'm an outgoing and happy person, the whole style just draws my attention. The mood of grunge certainly went with my mood the whole week. That's what fashion does; lets you express yourself.

I wore a "rock & roll" Urban Outfitters tee, Hollister maxi skirt with black tights underneath, my acid wash jacket and quilted Doc Martens. Beauty wise I added Kat Von D "Homegirl" lipstick. I felt the part for sure.

Take it from this weeks breakdown, get head so you don't explode your head. Even though some sweet fashion came out of it.

Black and Bold

It's been quite hot in NYC, melting faces hot. If you're me, you only brought one pair of shorts to school, the heat can be quite a dilemma. Until I purchased some shorts on sale I went with my second BFF, leggings. This is the first mostly black look I've done in a while and I have to say it feels good to be black (pun intended). To cope with the heat I paired my leggings from H&M with a Forever 21 crop top that was literally $2.80 so it was worth the purchase. The the white button up just added some style to an otherwise active wear look, also from H&M. Let's face it I'm not going for a run. Lastly, some Doc Martens I purchased for $40! That's a steal for Doc's!
This was the "creepy look" outfit for sure. I got so many weird looks from people. I've definitely seen weirder outfits then mine so I'm not sure what the deal was (the city has been a bit extra creepy though). I still walk tall and proud because it's who I am. I made the decision to wear what I wanted so I OWN IT! Always own who you are. There's only one person like you: you, so be yourself no matter what. That's why this outfit is not just black, but bold!

The Mannel

I've been obsessing lately over this flannel that actually belongs to my wonderful boyfriend/iPhone photographer for the blog, Gannon. I bought it for him for Christmas and I hadn't actually worn it myself until this summer. It's basically amazing. Probably the most amazing flannel ever. It's thick, warm and stylish for an edgy look. I call this the Mannel. I'm probably not the first one to name this look that, but it totally fits. It's a man flannel or Mannel. I like to think its a chic way to wear your boyfriends clothes. So I say find your favorites of your boyfriends clothes and make them your own. I've worn this flannel a few different ways. Today I went with the look that makes me look pantsless which, I find takes some confidence to do if you're not okay with people looking at you funny. Actually underneath Gannon's H&M flannel is a pair of high waisted leather shorts from Platos Closet ($6!). Even though they never buy my clothes they have some cute ones. For shoes I chose quilted, black Doc Martens that I found for $40 at Off Broadway Shoes in Syracuse.
I think this look can translate into any boyfriend out there. Maybe he has a sweater you like or a cool hoodie. Rock it your way!
